The South Australian electricity transmission company Electranet sought submissions on its plan to build an interconnecting electricity transmission cable from South Australia to New South Wales.

The Science Party NSW made a brief submission in support of this interconnector plan. The planned infrastructure stands to improve reliability by creating redundancy in the National Energy Market (NEM; the curiously-named network that stretches from South Australia through Victoria and NSW to Queensland).

Greater connectedness also has the potential to increase affordability for NSW consumers by allowing greater competition. It also provides the opportunity to import more of that sweet, sweet renewables-generated electricity from SA, at times when our demand is high and theirs low.
